We made history

Last night was incredible, and I have all of you to thank.

By now, you know my story: I'm the youngest son of Peruvian immigrants who came to the United States to live the American  Dream. They worked hard to create opportunities for me and my brothers to have a better life. I learned the value of community and generosity from their example and became a teacher so I could give back to my students. And last night this first generation American just became the first Latino to represent Omaha in the Nebraska Legislature -- that is opportunity.

I started this campaign to better engage and represent every part of our community, and together for the last 55 weeks we've done just that. We did it by knocking on nearly 35,000 doors and having meaningful conversations with thousands of people about their lives and their concerns and hopes for our neighborhoods in downtown and South Omaha. People saw that we cared through the hard work we put in to reach out to them, and that's why we won 11 of the 12  precincts, with 61% of the overall vote.

I have been honored to be an Omaha Public Schools Board Member for the last three years, where I have worked to make our schools stronger, safer, and more inclusive for students and teachers. I couldn't be more thrilled to continue that work in the Legislature.

To all of you who have been there to make all of this possible: Gracias.

I’m a little taken aback that the night I approached you to discuss the details of the information I have and wanted to use to let you be the face of the restructuring of our entire operating system we are being broken under….I ended up caving and allowing the D.O.D. to reactivate my former position with them, to be free to give the support of my constituents I’ve been swayed into representing and veting the canident that embodies the entirety of North omaha, all area tribal leadership, Shelly, president of the OMSBA, and spaghetti works, as well as the congregation of three predominant churches in the area, and by the time your debating, you will never dismiss another person like you and mr. Pesek did to me and my wife the night I tried handing you the opportunity to make your “primary focus” moot, rather than be forced to go back to work for the government which promised to let me and my wife, live in peace developing her child development system which is regarded by everyone who experience it as unrivaled and all the children of all background and region respond to….never has failed in the four years of practical factual basis up in peer review currently. So thanks for not being Suttle, but I will also not be, freed up and cleared to clean up Omaha. ….if I had a lot of faith you would be different than what I expected, and had to finalize my living will (since I had explained to BOTH of you I was dying, and day to day)and not getting any attorney in the city to finish the job to protect my wife if the worst happened, I wouldn’t be able to get enough support to live through the last six weeks, but I have, and the rest of my time now is detticatted to repairing the last two decades of citizen apathy.
And as still the liaison of the head of hr for Hilton wwc, I would be violating the terms of my job, showing the truth, honestly and unmercifully. Be well sir, for personally hold no I’ll will to you as a person, just as my voice.
