Don Bacon Continues His Attacks on Women’s Healthcare, Voting to Allow Contraception Bans

Posted by Tony Vargas · July 21, 2022

Earlier this afternoon, Bacon voted against a bipartisan effort to codify the right to obtain and use contraception in federal law nationwide and protect the ability of health care providers to offer contraception. The bill could allow states to deny women this very basic health care right, while criminalizing the health care providers who are taking care of their female patients.

Vargas released the following statement in response:

“First he cosponsored a bill to force victims of rape and incest to carry their abuser’s child - no matter how young they are, then voted to allow the criminalization of women seeking abortion care in other states, now Don Bacon is coming for contraception. Where will Don Bacon’s extreme attacks on women end?

I will continue to stand with women and families who need access to reproductive health care. Politicians have no place in the middle of any decision that should be left to women, their families, and their doctors. Period."

Bacon, who has co-sponsored a bill to ban all abortions nationwide even in the cases of rape or incest, has been relentless in his attack against women’s healthcare, doubling down since Roe V. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court. Just last week, Bacon voted against a bill that prohibits state officials from preventing women from traveling to another state for an abortion.

Polling released the week prior has Vargas up by 1 in a head-to-head, and shows that voters find Bacon’s extreme position on abortion access seriously concerning.
