State Sen. Tony Vargas of Omaha has
spearheaded legislation that highlighted the need for paid sick days.
During the pandemic, he also pressed a separate bill that highlighted
the related needs of workers whose jobs were deemed “essential” during
the pandemic, including workers in meatpacking plants.
Vargas, reached late Thursday, said he knows as a working dad “how hard it can be juggling your job and needing to care for your loved ones when they are sick.”
”Every Nebraskan should be able to take a day off when they’re sick without risking their job or their ability to pay their bills,” he said.
