Omaha, Neb. -- Today Senator Tony Vargas announced that he has been endorsed by former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Julián Castro.

"As the son of immigrants who came to America to build a better future, Senator Vargas understands the promise of this country and has fought to ensure that that promise is available to every family,” said Castro. “His efforts to address issues like affordable housing and housing discrimination are needed now more than ever, and will help more Nebraskans have the opportunity to get ahead and live their dreams. I'm proud to endorse him, and look forward to seeing him continue to be an unrelenting champion for his community."

Secretary Castro’s endorsement is the latest in a series of national endorsements, including that of Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris, Latino Victory Fund, and former presidential candidate and entrepreneur Andrew Yang and his organization, Humanity First. He has also been endorsed by many statewide and local organizations. A full list can be found on his campaign website, here: vargasfornebraska.com/news/2020-endorsements

“It is an honor and truly humbling to receive support from these public servants, organizations, and community leaders,” said Vargas. “From day one, I’ve said that my campaign is not just about winning -- it’s about truly improving the civic health of our community and restoring faith in government. I’ve worked hard to do that over the past four years and hope to continue to serve my neighbors in downtown and South Omaha for another term.”

Senator Vargas was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016. He has been a member of the Appropriations Committee and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Executive Board and the Chair of the Legislature’s Planning Committee.
